Keeping in mind that I am simply a user and have no particular insights, my suggestion is to go ahead give it a try. My assumption is that this was probably done so that in the event of a problem the prior installation would not be overwritten.
Your second image shows the program being installed to the PSPP-TESTING folder for the same reason, which I believe is most likely to keep it separate from prior Windows versions that were installed using a different installer. So far, my experience has been that for me it has worked fairly reliably. The message box that pops up simply informs you that you may run into a problem with the Windows installer program since it is new and still under development.
I appreciate the help and encouragement, but hopefully she can load pspp on the Windows box at her internship and I can abandon this excursion.I have installed the Windows version on two different computers and have not run into any problems at all.
Sorry i don't own a mac to test with and have zero experience with pspp but i don't see why we shouldn't be able to get everything working for you with googles help. I can't even get Knoppix to boot let alone set the nomodeset option. init: line 276: /bin/mount: Input/output error I got this error after the Mac started to boot from the Knoppix disk: Well this time I never made it to the graphics error. What is the graphics error? try booting with nomodeset option. She never mentioned this at the beginning of this adventure. So I think that is the route I am going to take.
She actually has a Windows computer at her internship that they will allow her to install it on. But just now I'm finding out more about her true needs to use the program and what options are available to her. I know, that's a bit over the top just to run one program. A simple solution would be to have a link at the top of the GNU PSPP page which says : For Windows users of PSPP go here (link for PSPP for Windows dl page) For Linux users of PSPP (continue on page further down) Regards. No she loves her Mac, but I have been able to get it to run on my Windows machine and thought about getting her a Windows machine just to run the program.
Worst case scenario is to install windows in a vm on her mac, but i really don't see that being necessary never ever ever suggest she'd be better off with a windows laptop unless you hate her I could always set up a dual boot with Linux, but she is away at college and I wouldn't be able to talk her through that, she's a bit, shall we say "technologically challenged" I even tried to pull a fast one om my daughter and told here she should just by a Windows machine. So I just thought I would reach out in the pure luck of it that someone might have some knowledge about it. If I'm understanding the site correctly these installers are created with MacPorts, and should contain everything needed to run the program. If your feeling adventurous, here is the link to the page where the downloads are. I'm just trying to get the compiled OS X version to work as simply as the Windows version did. So bugs and such might not be addressed in a very timely manner.
The site I referenced has various versions ready to download and install, but paid OS's are low on their priority list for attention. I am not trying to build the program from scratch, so I'm not sure what, if any ancillary programs are needed. She has a MAC and would like to be able to use it on that computer, but she doesn't know of anyone who has it running on a MAC to get guidance from, so. My daughter has used the program before but only on a Windows machine. It seems my kids always rope me into these kinds of projects. Thanks for the reply, but I'm kinda just barely treading water on this.
